All Black Coach - Ian Foster

I know that’s subjective, but does anyone really think Foster is better than Joseph (especially with Brown)?
It's subjective IMO. There is a pretty compelling argument that while coaching Japan is test experience it has some pretty major differences to coaching 6N/TRC nation and even if it were Joseph's time in Japan was hardly irrepressible. For example I'm not sure why Joseph is a better candidate than a guy like Cotter were he in the mix - purely on record.
I rate Joseph and would take him over Fozzie personally but even Wayne Smith who is seemingly a paragon of virtue was appointed too early. It's easy to see a situation where Joseph were appointed, had to learn many of the same lessons in a difficult two years and in hindsight his CV didn't look as brilliant as it once did.

So disappointed Joseph (and Brown) are not going to be in running. They are both the most innovative and ready to take ABs into next direction but such is life.
Foster and Robertson..........meh, neither fills me with ABs head coach confidence but will prob go with Foster due to continuity however I just don't believe he is one.
Robertson I do not want running an ABs team, the guy is a tool! I have been at a few games in which he is watching his son is playing and he spends the whole game abusing the ref and other team! his personality is not one I think is suited to the ABs job.You know, that's the first negative comment I've read about him.
Agree. I would have thought a parent would have filmed him by now and it would be all over the news/net. Maybe the Crusader mafia have delivered a few horse heads?
I find that accusation hard to believe as every person you speak to only say good things about Robertson, the amount of charity work he does in the wider community is also highly praised.

is pretty hard to go unnoticed being a dickhead these days, more so when you add in his profile and the fact that parents sideline behaviour at kids sports is a hot topic too.
If a top coach was being a dickhead, it'd be all over social media, the news and he'd have to tearfully apologies to everyone.

yeah you would think so any bad behaviour is as you say all over social media pretty quickly.

Robertson has two black marks in my books - he's both from BoP and a Cantab but I still want him to be AB coach if Foster is the other option (of course Rennie is my number 1 choice but appears I might be booing him with regularity for the coming years).
I think Robertson is a good coach despite the franchise leg up in NZ rugby circles.

There is an awful lot of petty provincial bias coming through on these boards.
Yup it's fantastic

@Darren 100% I was super surprised myself and the fact it happened more that once. I don’t at all have a chip on my shoulder with him. My concern is that the character of a man you want running the ABs?
Interesting. I just don't know though.
i just hope Robertson doesn't get the top spot. For the good of NZ and super rugby the AB coach must select fairly from throughout the country. So players know they can get a fair go anywhere rather than having to move to the Crusaders to improve their chances. It will destroy super rugby as any good player now that doesn't make the ABs don't stick around for too long. and any team winning yr after yr gets so boring
I doubt if Robertson has the maturity (Hansen didn't at the end. Any 50/50 or even 60/40 went the Crusaders way) to not pick from his team. Hes not a Henry or Smith.. Not even close.

Out of interest do you think the head coach has final say re selections and if so what is the point of the other selectors. Surely Robertson could get a blues ex player as a selector to even out the bias.
Fix? Fax? A name something like that rings a bell ...

First it was the haircut.
Now it's the Crusaders bias.

@mofitzy_ I do wonder whether offshore coaches see NZ coaching jobs as quite the plums we think they are.
Most surprising one was having to twist Tony Brown's arm to take up the Highlanders' head coach job, when for an offshore coach who aspired to the AB's job, that would have been a decent stepping stone. And there hasn't been a rush home for any of the other Super jobs that have come up in recent times.
ABs job is a bit different, but it comes with a lot of pressure.
