All Black Coach - Ian Foster
-
Seems more and more likely that Joseph and Rennie have both heard through the grapevine that the recruitment process is a farce. No point burning all their goodwill at NZR by being part of recruitment process of which the outcome has already been decided. Don't be surprised if Robertson drops out soon, and NZR award Foster the job as the last candidate standing.

Gotta love a conspiracy theory.

Sheesh AC, this is all lose lose for you right? They select Foster and it's Foster, they select Razor and you lose your good Crusaders coach and might seem him replaced by a Hammett or Gibson type.

Would love to know whether it was a purely money decision from Joseph or if he realised it was rigged from the start. Both are equally bad.
I don't understand why people think like this (not just mofitzy). Why does it have to be either about the money offered by the JRFU, or not being able to get the ABs gig (because the outcome has somehow already been determined)?
Has it ever crossed your mind that Joseph actually likes coaching Japan, loves the country and its culture, and loves living and working there? Maybe he feels that he hasn't finished his job there; that they may have finished 8th at the 2019RWC but that he wants to help them to get better and achieve more? That he wants them to win the whole darn thing in 2023 or at least try?
Just a though. Don't be small-minded.

So disappointed Joseph (and Brown) are not going to be in running. They are both the most innovative and ready to take ABs into next direction but such is life.
Foster and Robertson..........meh, neither fills me with ABs head coach confidence but will prob go with Foster due to continuity however I just don't believe he is one.
Robertson I do not want running an ABs team, the guy is a tool! I have been at a few games in which he is watching his son is playing and he spends the whole game abusing the ref and other team! his personality is not one I think is suited to the ABs job. -
@Stargazer Did you see Browns interview on the Breakdown? He was pretty clear on his desire to coach NZ, I just assumed JJ was the same. But I take your point, he may feel his jobs not done yet and he can apply for ABs after next WC. Mind you Gatland, Schmidt and Razor may be stiff comp next time.

NZR don't their arse from their elbow. The All Blacks' most dangerous foe is their own board.

@chimoaus without scanning back through the thread, has it been confirmed Brown is staying with JJ in Japan?
Obviously he said he wanted to keep working with JJ, but was this at where ever JJ was or just assuming JJ was throwing his hat in the ring for the AB role?
-
@taniwharugby The media release from the JRFU doesn't mention Brown at all, so I assume he hasn't been re-appointed, yet.
-
@Stargazer you would have to assume when he threw his lot in with JJ, he knew the likelyhood of JJ staying in Japan and this hasnt blindsided him?
-
Been a long time since we didn’t pick the best coach available. I know that’s subjective, but does anyone really think Foster is better than Joseph (especially with Brown)?
If the Cantab mafia get Robertson as well we are back to the days of Mitchell being picked too early.
If they offered JJ the job and he turned it down for a better contract, what can you do? But I doubt that’s what happened. The 26 thing was just window dressing for a decision that’s already been made.

Mitch had one season in Super Rugby where he finished 6th.
Whilst I agree Razor may be a bit green I don't think that's a fair comparison.
