Hurricanes 2020

2020 Hurricanes loosies & their preferred positions:
Murphy Taramai - 6, ?
Vaea Fifita - 6, lock, 8?
Reed Prinsep - 6, 8Ardie Savea - 7, 8
Du’Plessis Kirifi - 7Devan Flanders - 8, 6, (also used as lock at NPC level)
Gareth Evans - 8, 7, 6So 3 loosies who prefer 6, and two others who can adequately cover 6
Also two loosies who are best at 7, and one other who can adequately cover 7
Two loosies who prefer 8, two who can cover 8 (Ardie and Prinsep), and one can maybe cover 8 (Fifita)? If I were a selector, I'd be looking for a versatile loosie who can - at least - cover 7 as well (not necessarily as his preferred position) and/or another position like lock.
Edited to add that I don't know what Brayden Iose (Evans' injury replacement)'s preferred position is. Is it 8?

@Stargazer I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s Evans and Taramai, Fifita definitely seems on his way out.
Think the term might be "bon voyage"

@Canes4life I completely agree with that statement
-
@Canes4life JGB certainly improved so good to have him for another season. he's no Beaudy, but at least he is getting into the Canes style.
-
@Machpants agreed, and I only expect him to get better. I wonder who else they have on the radar or if they now see TJ as that third choice first five option. Either way they will probably need a third first five anyway.
I've heard murmurings in Wellington that the Hurricanes see big potential in Ruben Love but the last time they signed someone of that age with potential was TJ Va'a, and that hasn't turned out well. I'd rather Love play a few seasons in NPC and then bring him through if he proves his worth.
-
@Canes4life Aiden Morgan is too young I assume.
-
@Canes4life I really hope so, wow when did we have all this 1st 5 potential in Wellington 😂
-
@mikey07 if you count Gopperth and Howell as talented then it's been a few years.
I'm not sure how much we will see of them this year though as JGB is the incumbent but it will be good to have some depth in that position.

Here's a wee video on Ruben Love that I came across:

@Canes4life what about Flutey? Do you reckon it will be smith that misses out next year?

@Tim both of them are the same age I think. He is another one with potential that the Canes will most likely have an eye on.
Yep. Both were in the NZ Schools team last year. Morgan played at 1st 5 and Love on the wing - a position he had never played before. Hammertime!
