NRL 2019

@kiwiinmelb yep, and for some reason, fans fucking hate them for it. it's genuinely retarded. Especially when you look at the absolute shit some clubs are left in by signing at the top end.

Just read a game thread from last night, NRL fans and their attitude to the Storm sort of amuses me.
To read any thread, you would think they are the only team that wrestles/ the grubbiest team in the comp/are part of an NRL conspiracy to help them. It's fucking bizarre. Then someone will bring up the salary cap thing, and then sort of suggest they are still over it, despite their team being full of absolute nobodies.
Then it starts on Cam Smith being shit. Bellamy being shit. It's amazing to me a team plays the prelim at least every year with a shit coach.
I have no particular love for the Storm, probably mainly because they are always at the pointy end. But the shit they cop, mainly from Sydney fans of crap clubs is amazing. I don't even really hold the cap thing against them, as it was basically them trying to hold on to gun players they developed.
They never sign superstars. In fact they are never in the market for them. When was the last time you heard a "Latrell to the Storm" type rumour? They either develop their own, or they take spuds, off-casts, and rejects from other clubs, and turn them in to GF-standard players. They are a model club, and yet all they cop is shit for it. The fact they are more hated than the Roosters astounds me
It wouldn't matter where they were located, they'd be hated because of their success.

Completely forgot to mention I went to Origin game 1 .
We went as a work group and everything was laid on. Sat next to a massive bogan who was good value but unfortunately grabbed my head and kissed me on the cheek when Gagai scored.
Still great experience with only the 30min wait to get out of the parking garage being the low point of the night.
Suncorp is still the best footy stadium Ive been to.
Going to Boganpalooza was always on my theoretical sporting bucket list, but as I haven't watched in about 10 years I haven't been interested, but thought I might go to the final match this year. Tickets were available and reasonable. But I have a bloody presentation at a staff meeting that night.
It may remain unfulfilled. But maybe I should try get to a Suncorp one next year after reading your post.
One of the better sporting events I've been to and the only game of league I've ever attended (I watch the warriors every now and then, and usually watch the kiwis, but generally dont like the game).
Even though the actual game was pretty boring, standing on Caxton street when the NSW bus rolled past and experiencing the hate was quite incredible.... people were actually throwing glass bottles and trying to smash the windows.

Crazy ending.
-
Yipppppeeeeeeeeee
-
The only thing more unpredictable than the Warriors is the NRL referees.
-
-
Fuck check those refs bank accounts/TAB accounts. That was cheating at its finest. Didnt even hide it.
-
Warriors overcome the worst 2nd half reffing that has ever happened in the NRL and that's saying something.
Even Newcastle lad Brett Finch thought the refs were having a laugh when Hiku was knocked out cold and they allowed the game to continue several more plays until the Knights scored.
Maumalo scores a try that the Bunker (and only the Bunker) thought wasn't a try and Passi is sent off for making the game-saving tackle with no time on the clock.
A fucking joke this competition.

Cronulla coach pulls his Johnson during loss to Brisbane.
https://www.stuff.co.nz/sport/league/114063710/nrl-shaun-johnson-pulled-with-sharks-game-on-the-line
Warriors may be having a mediocre season but looks like they dodge a bullet by releasing Johnson instead of extending his contract.
-
Welcome to the rocks and diamonds show!! Something we 'enjoyed' for many years. When he's on he is pure fire, but when he ain't...
Was he ever pulled at the Warriors? can't recall that happening from memory. Plus I guess you've got to have someone to actually replace him with lol
-
@Paekakboyz Yeah I think he was pulled from a game in favour of Thomas Leuluai who was on the bench. I think the excuse was he was injured but he was crap in that game.
-
Not NRL but have just been watching the Fiji v Tokelau Rugby League 7s from the South Pacific Games at Apia Park. What a glorious mud bath the field has become after what must have been plenty of recent rain. For Wellingtonians the playing surface is very reminscient of Martin Luckie or Prince of Wales Parks on a bad day. Fantastic stuff.
-
SJ and his huge contract catching a lot of heat this week. So i guess he's not a freak talent being wasted in a dud team like you thought when you only watched him every 3 weeks?
Soft downhill skier.

That's on the sharks for thinking they could get a tune out of him. Weekend after weekend warriors fans knew who he was all along
-
I'm off to the Wellington game so I hope they haven't dropped him for that... or do I!!?

We're passive, he'll run riot against us. Perfect downhill slope
