NRL 2019

I really want to go to the new Parramatta stadium ... but god I don't know if I can bring myself to go to a Warriors match. Maybe the best thing that could have happened is if they'd hired Lodge, then I could have given up on them once and for all, instead they're likely to inflict many more years of misery on my life.
-
I just watched Keeping the Faith, 25 years of the Warriors. Reminded me why I love them so much, and how much unrealised potential we had. The ABs are #1 but some of the best sporting moment's I've ever had were at Warriors games
you know why? Expectation. When the Warriors are on, it comes as a surprise, which brings its own high. Fuck being a Storm supporter. Yes your team turns up, game after game, season after season, and is always on. But where is the joy? only the crushing disappointment of another Grand Final loss. Booooring.
We put up with drudge. Game after game. Season after season. And then BANG!! we go on a tear, knock over some great teams playing unreal football. And it is glorious. Made better because you know it's fleeting. Next season (or even next week) we will be back to the mean.
Twas ever thus.
Seriously, i have the same issue with the Warriors as i have with the Taipans. If we are going to lose most weeks, can we at least lose by playing fun football? This turgid shit we turn up with at the moment is unsuccessful and boring.
-
@mariner4life That is why Kearney has to go. We went down last night barely firing a shot. Bring back the razzle dazzle
-
Look, we're all fed up with the Warriors, but at least we all pretty much saw this coming.
Spare a thought for the Bronco supporters. This is a club that is used to contending. The play finals basically every year. Gun stadium, all the money, free to air games every fucking weekend.
And they suck. And there isn't much light at the end of their tunnel either. Boyd and McCulloch are shit and taking up a whack of their cap, so are pretty much undroppable. This season is a write-off, but where is the improvement next year coming from?
Nah, on second thoughts, fuck 'em
-
God i love league. Tariq Sims rubbed out for a week for a late hit. Misses Origin. His wife takes to Instagram with a rant about Qld bias on the panel. Glorious.
Bad news for Qld is it means Klemmer comes back in.
-
Melbourne get a win on the road in an Origin round. What a fucking juggernaut of a club.
Craig Bellamy the quickest coach in NRL history to 300 wins (437 games, for a nice 69%)
Kevvie Walters' son becomes the latest of 486 Walters' to play NRL, rugby league royalty that family.
Cam Smith plays game 400 next week
-
Completely forgot to mention I went to Origin game 1 .
We went as a work group and everything was laid on. Sat next to a massive bogan who was good value but unfortunately grabbed my head and kissed me on the cheek when Gagai scored.
Still great experience with only the 30min wait to get out of the parking garage being the low point of the night.
Suncorp is still the best footy stadium Ive been to.

Just read a game thread from last night, NRL fans and their attitude to the Storm sort of amuses me.
To read any thread, you would think they are the only team that wrestles/ the grubbiest team in the comp/are part of an NRL conspiracy to help them. It's fucking bizarre. Then someone will bring up the salary cap thing, and then sort of suggest they are still over it, despite their team being full of absolute nobodies.
Then it starts on Cam Smith being shit. Bellamy being shit. It's amazing to me a team plays the prelim at least every year with a shit coach.
I have no particular love for the Storm, probably mainly because they are always at the pointy end. But the shit they cop, mainly from Sydney fans of crap clubs is amazing. I don't even really hold the cap thing against them, as it was basically them trying to hold on to gun players they developed.
They never sign superstars. In fact they are never in the market for them. When was the last time you heard a "Latrell to the Storm" type rumour? They either develop their own, or they take spuds, off-casts, and rejects from other clubs, and turn them in to GF-standard players. They are a model club, and yet all they cop is shit for it. The fact they are more hated than the Roosters astounds me

Going to Boganpalooza was always on my theoretical sporting bucket list, but as I haven't watched in about 10 years I haven't been interested, but thought I might go to the final match this year. Tickets were available and reasonable. But I have a bloody presentation at a staff meeting that night.
It may remain unfulfilled. But maybe I should try get to a Suncorp one next year after reading your post.

I doubt anyone in my workplace knows it's on - even my new Aussie minion, who's from Townsville but weirdly isn't bogan (my mate from Townsville reckons he's not a true Townsvillian as she didn't recognise his last name as a local bogan name) and speaks enough Chinese to translate arguments for me probably doesn't even know it's on.
Enough with this you business - not all of us have Stockholm Syndrome.

This does not compute

@mariner4life their formula to success is a pretty simple one , and maybe being based in Melbourne watching how the afl clubs go about it has something to do with it , Iβm amazed others donβt copy it , maybe they just lack the patience and want an instant fix .
But itβs sign the best 17 year old kids on the market , putting heaps of coaching development into them getting them ready .
While others are chasing the big names on the market , they are mostly locking up the signatures of talented kids .
Thatβs where their production line comes from .
