NRL 2019

@Sneakdefreak I like this lineup. Speed at the ruck and with Jazz we can get better ball on the edges.

Jazz is fucking shit. NSW Cup player at best.
-
@mariner4life I was never a fan, but he’s actually stepped up over the last little while.
-
@Nepia after listening to the RS talk about it this morning I'm more on the fence than totally against. He's done a lot of rehab and is paying reparations to the folks he terrorised. Plus he had two years out of the game. I'm for rehabilitation and if he has kept a clean sheet since that incident then I'd support them signing him.
-
@Paekakboyz Yeah this just my personal opinion on it. Also, I think he’s only just started paying reparations, there were articles about how he hadn’t been paying it last year.
He was also on a good behaviour bond for assault at the time it actually happened (according to a report I read). I’m actually surprised he avoided jail time in the US. Must have some good lawyers.
If he’s rehabilitating himself then all good, I just don’t want him doing it at my club - he’s not even a NZer. 😉
-
@Nepia oh totally bro. I have to admit my belief in rehabilitation is being tested with this guys situation. I heard that he didn't have a shitshow of paying the US court $$ figure and went to go see the people face-to-face to sort out a plan, and no doubt apologise again (and again, etc).
I also have no idea how he escaped jail... maybe they still think Oz is a big ol prison
But if the stories of his genuine rehab over a period of time are true I could be swayed. I mean Packer stomped on some dudes head and it's good to see him back on the straight and narrow since he payed his dues.
But when you re-read what Lodge got up to during that rampage

I sincerely doubt any of that is true. I'd revisit my support of a club that signed such a piece of shit.
-
@antipodean but if it was true? would you change your position or ?? (genuine Q).
Man, it's fraught - how far is too far over whatever line you hold personally for someone doing horrid shit then turning things around?

No. Not at my club.

I'm a big believer that rehabilitation needs to be practised in order to reduce recidivism (if for no other reason than cost), but he can do a range of things rather than play footy earning substantially more than the average full-time wage. The game owes him nothing and it sends a very poor message that of all the athletes running around this sort of behaviour can be rewarded with another contract. Go rehabilitate stacking shelves or digging ditches.
-
@antipodean that sounds like rehab has a ceiling or a limit, or that the best you can aim for is some kind of low-skill manual job? Does that mean that a person with any sort of high paying or privileged job/career can't re-enter it after paying their dues? Although in saying that I know that people that have fucked up in medicine, finance and other areas have been prevented from practicing again.
If the rehab work I heard about is genuine then it does sound like he's worked hard to get another crack at the NRL. He had two years out of the game plus the other punishments and rehab obligations. Again, I don't know if that's enough, or sufficient if he's genuinely rehabilitated himself.

Yes there is a limit - as you've said people get disbarred and de-registered for less than what he did.
There's no compunction on the NRL to provide him with an ability to become a functioning member of society and I have a sneaking suspicion that had he been delayed a year, Greenberg would've had a very different opinion.
-
I'm probably slightly hypocritical in that I don't mind if he gets rehab at another club, just not the Warriors. But I'm not far off feeling the same way as @antipodean.

I think he finally approached them and sorted out payment in June last year (after the articles I mentioned above) but seems like he was dodging it until that time.
I actually had him in my Rugby League Live team on the PS4 until I read about what he did, dropped him quick smart.
-
@Nepia unbelievable this f#$&n lowlife @$$hole is even still playing. Should've received a lifetime ban and thrown in jail for 20 years to 'rehab'
What he did to those people man..... just makes me think what if that were someone I knew... I'd kick his fargin teeth in.
Won't be supporting the Warriors if he turns up here -
Some good signing news by the Warriors: Karl Lawton has signed a contract extension for another two seasons confirming he will be our starting hooker in 2020 with an injured Roache as the back up. Warriors also sign Roosters forward Josh Curran effective immediately, with the 20 year-old looking for an opportunity to play in the NRL. He takes Solomone Kata's spot in the main squad.
Now the bad signing news: It sounds like the Warriors are keen on signing Matt Lodge and while he is what the club needs, an aggressive frontrower, and there are plenty of players who have redeemed themselves (Gavet, Mau'u, Packer, Wicks etc etc etc), the Warriors and Lodge would need to answer a few questions before fans buy in.
- Have you paid back all your damages to your victims prior to signing this "massive" contract?
- If you haven't, then questions need to be aimed at the Warriors recruitment manager (who's daughter is dating Matt Lodge) and whether or not this is nepotism and the Warriors are paying for Lodge's past crimes.
- Can he actually stay in New Zealand? Over in the West Island it's ok cause he's from there and they love a larrikin, but if he hasn't paid back the damages I wouldn't be surprised if he fails some character test (his past history also suggests he's a type of psychopath).
Ultimately I see him signing with Parramatta because that's where all savages should go, plus I think the media questions here will scare him off.
-
@Sneakdefreak did not know that he's with the Warriors recruitment manager's daughter. That's interesting, to say the least. Good point about whether he can even work/live in NZ with his convictions.
-
Fuck Matt lodge. He's a genuine scumbag by all accounts.

Clearly the warriors don't subscribe to Graham Henry's good people make good players mantra
-
im potentially out if they sign him. The straw that broke a strangers back.
