NRL 2019
-
my first ever Warriors game, and I am barely looking forward to it.
-
@Sneakdefreak Nikorima will be wondering WTF he got himself into. His giant pile of cash will make him feel a little better

@canefan He also won't cop the flak like he did in Brisbane so he will probably be happy even if it turns into a rebuilding year for 2020 (which it will).
It's always a transition/rebuilding year with us

All part of the master plan for the 2042 NRL season.

... when we finally get to ring that victory bell

Considering the number of people flying in to Brisbane in different club jerseys right now, this magic round might be a success

Are there no home games in this round (well Brisbane aside I guess) or did the teams with home games have to just lump it?
If the Warriors weren't more awful than usual I would have gone up as my mate offered me his tickets and it would be good to catch up with my family in Brisbane.
-
The Warriors are so poop right now. They're not getting basics right, no co-ordination on attack, leaky on defence, looking decidedly second-rate.
Tuned in hoping to see some effort and a good game, but nope. -
Thoughts on my first warriors viewing. We are slow, unadventurous, and yet strangely unstructured. Our defense is also slow to get back and realign.
St George are beating us with offload and physicality. Remember the Warriors myth?
Green is shit.
-
Oh and I can now see why Tevaga gets picked. He actually tries

Our line speed is generally slower than our opposition. We don't come up in a straight line on D either. Kearney building us in his own image. Boring.
-
@Donsteppa @mariner4life @canefan I think we can collectively give ourselves a pat on the back for inspiring the Warriors to that win. well done us.
-
Oooosh! Cha hoo! Warriors all day baby!!
Enjoyed that. What a 2nd half! Having my boys next to me riding every tackle was great
-
So just watched the game and I’m unofficially back on (I’ll wait until next week....)
Lawton was awesome. Made big metres off dummy half and also tackled well.
Nikorima a very good debut. Still not worth 500 large, but hey keep it going young fulla.
RTS is a superstar. Every time he’s involved he looks threatening and is a mistake free footy player.
-
Well that was a surprise, I nearly threw my iPad at the TV during the opening few minutes.
Wow, it's nice seeing the Warriors moving the ball wide for once. That pass on from RTS to Herbert to Fus wouldn't have happened if Kata was there.
The Dragons just fell apart.
F-word, I still can't believe we won.
-
So I watched the first 10 minutes and after we went down 10-0 I thought "fuck, this is going to be an annihilation" so went to the gym instead. Come back (after stopping off at McDonalds to destroy any success from said gym) and find the fuckers won and Parramatta was instead annihilated in the "feature game" against Melbourne.
Karl Lawton was the MVP and he's been our best hooker this season despite playing less than 70 minutes the entire year.
Great to see the Eels returning to their traditional ways btw.
Positives:
-
Amazing what happens if you drop a senior guy and change your game plan. There was a lot more speed in the Warriors play-the-ball, mainly from Lawton, which stopped any defenders from getting to the receiver early. Plus dummyhalf running. Do that a lot more since we don't have the size.
-
Kearney got the rotation correct for probably the first time this whole season. Using two hookers gave the team more quickness (and helped when Nathaniel Roache got injured again). He played Jazz Tevaga at lock when he came on which meant he could use Lachlan Burr as a front row option later in the game. Two HIAs to Tevaga and Tohu Harris also helped but still credit when due.
-
Patrick Herbert can also kick goals? After not knowing who Patrick Herbert was at the start of the season he's become my hero because he's from Whakatane and he's keeping Solomone Kata out of the team. I love the bloke.
-
A negative for him but a positive for us - Ben Hunt reliving his greatest moment circa 2015 NRL Grandfinal when he dropped the ball while trying to catch a Warriors kick. The look on his face was priceless, that poor boy is still scarred.
Negatives:
-
Nathaniel Roache did his back in again near the end of the game and the money has to be on the Warriors moving on from him after this season. Dude can't stay healthy and has a buggered back. Probably positive for Karl Lawton however as the Warriors will resign him instead.
-
Our forward pack is tiny compared to the Dragons. We might actually have the smallest forward pack in the competition this year despite adding Leeson Ah Mau. We played to our strength tonight (speed) but we're missing one nasty big bopper who we can bring off the bench for 10-15 minutes to do damage. Brian Smith should search the Fox Memorial competition for the next Ukuma Ta'ai.
-
Our halves were quiet most of the game. I get Kodi Nikorima being new to the team so hopefully he gels with the guys over the next game or two but Blake Green hasn't been playing or kicking well. It looks like he hasn't recovered from his injury in the Gold Coast game.

@Sneakdefreak on the forwards, it was interesting that Finchy in the post game interview with that Pom talked about our “big” forwards, whereas all game I thought it was noticeable how much smaller we were.
What a win.
