Funny ol things going on in Pallekele where Sri Lanka are playing the bangles in tests. Was mildly keen to see what the southland and Hawkes Bay of world cricket could do against each other. Like an elite retard duel that might, in it's own way be entertaining.
Nup. A "Jayasuriya" era pitch and the scores are funny, and hopeless.
Test 1
Bang, 541/7d
SL 648/8
Bang, 100/2Test 2
SL, 271/1
🙂 think it might be a decent batting wicketSangakkara and Jayawardene retiring at roundabout the same time had a massive impact on their batting, luckily from a NZ point of view I’m sure Rossco will retire quite a few years before KW.
We also have a much better bowling line up than they do.

No surprise:
IPL 2021 has been postponed, following several positive Covid-19 cases across franchises over the past couple of days. The move was confirmed by IPL chairman Brijesh Patel, who said it was for the safety of all stakeholders. In a media statement, the IPL said the decision was "unanimously" taken by the tournament's Governing Council along with the top brass of the BCCI. "The BCCI does not want to compromise on the safety of the players, support staff and the other participants involved in organising the IPL," the statement said. "This decision was taken keeping the safety, health and wellbeing of all the stakeholders in mind.

Yep, I was hoping they might be able to sneak the rest of the competition in, but postponement started to look inevitable once Covid cases got past the solid forward defense of the team bubbles.

i agree no surprise, but I am curious as what does postpone mean? Does it mean our kiwi players have to stay or can go to england now? (if they can)

You all know what's going to happen
With most of the players already in India, the final will be moved there.

IPL2021 just got suspended. That's a massive, massive move by the BCCI. It's a huge cash cow, and you saw what they were trying to do to keep it going (bio bubbles, PPE, etc).
Now, of course, players will try and get out, and probably fail. Still, gives our lads more time to prepare for England

Exactly, NZ is starting to get cold anyway, far better to stay in nice warm conditions and prepare for the greatest cricketing moment in our history. No pressure fellas.

haven't seen it anywhere else, so posting here.
Bancroft almost had some elite honesty in a Guardian interview
at which point, the commentary was classic:
and a great twitter thread formed (didn't think I'd ever write that, but hey)
... and of course the bowlers 'clarified the situation'
Astonishing how Cricket Australia believe that the tampering only started spontaneously at lunch on the 3rd day of a test, and immediately got caught, without anyone but the Warner and Bancroft being involved. Honest gov. Also, we didn't talk to any of the bowlers in our interviews...
this one could have legs again. And yet, CA are the only board to actually do much about caught ball tamperers, which makes me feel terrible that I have to recognise that.
Edit: quote of the day on this is 'elite mendacity'

@nzzp there wasn't a cricketer alive that bought the " bowlers didn't know" story. Those wierdos are obsessed with the condition of the ball. It's absolutely the fundamental part of their whole existence.
I guess Cameron's non disclosure agreement has finally waned as he watched Smith and Warner add millions to their portfolios while he languished on the peripheries of BbL and shield cricket, forever blackballed out of a decent living.
Good on him, let the truth settle the cards where they may.
They threw that kid under the bus when Smith sneered in the press conference, " you tell them what you did". The cheating ( ever seen the photos of Warner's bandaged fingers in England?) was something, but the cowardly cover up was something else.

For all the pearl clutching at ball tampering, every side has done it. It's just that none have positioned themselves as the holder of 'the line', and the moral owners of The Spirit Of Cricket. Pride, as they say, goes before a fall.
I do feel sorry for Bancroft though. He's come out of this worst.
I was amused at the 'clearing the air' from the bowling group... they could not possibly know anything about the condition being altered, no sir. Not possible.

Astonishing performance in the County Championship by 45 year old Darren Stevens of Kent, who hit 190 with 15 fours and 15 sixes coming in at No7. He now has the first class world record for domination of a partnership over 100. In the ninth wicket stand of 166 his partner Miguel Cummins hit... 1!
-
@catogrande I've always liked a solid defense, Miguel!

Good discipline to not swing out when the guy at the other end is seeing it like a beach ball.

Shakib determined to get banned again...
I heard that it was a reaction to corrupt officials calling players off for rain in dry conditions with his team about to win the match.
Not sure how true - just repeating intenet 'facts'. But it's in the Bangladesh league I think?

We need the ICC to make a massive example of him. We can't have any kids thinking this is in any way justifiable behaviour
