Bledisloe II

Wallabies would be better to start Pocock and have Hooper on the bench to up the anti in the final 20. Like Ardie I don't think he's big/physical enough but could be effective against tired legs.
-
@no-quarter Agreed but with Hooper captain and being paid so many $ they are forced into starting him.

I don't think Laumape has that in him. I see him more as a temporary measure ala Sam Tuitopou or Francis Sai'ili.
To be fair, no one saw it in Nonu either.
Yep, and if not for Lucky Luke and Mauger buggering off at the same time we may have never seen it at all.
Was a slidiing doors moment alright
-
@taniwharugby Farrrrk he used to frustrate the shit out of me when he would drop it or make a shitty mistake and just throw a hissy and walk away. Hated him for that!

Had shit hands, couldn't defend. Could run though.
His last 4-5 years were as good as any 12 has ever played. Jet.
Best I've ever seen. Even better than Horan imho. Absolute beast with ridiculous skillset.

Yeah, it's a pretty ridiculous situation they've got themselves into there.
Holy hell Folau on $2.2m? Like fuck he's worth even half of that.

I think the issue with Nonu is he showed so much potential and people were frustrated he kept making the same errors over and over and for this reason many questioned the persistence in him; then one day he woke and was awesome, luckily the AB selectors werent so quick to throw Nonu out as many fans (inc me) were.
I think moving him to 12 improved him as a footballer , he really matured there ,
In his early years at 13 , he really struggled making decisions in defense , and while you are making those type of errors it can affect confidence .

Plenty of people saw it in Nonu. The problem was he was a spare part from 2003 until after RWC 2007. As mentioned, he had serious competition for the 12 jersey when Mauger and McAlister were around - and prior to that, Tana also - but once he was given a few opportunities at 12 he flourished quickly and his game developed rapidly. I don't see that early level of flourishment or development in the 12 jersey at the top level in Laumape's game and therefore I don't see him kicking on.
What a load of crap. Laumape is only 2nd season Super Rugby if I’m not mistaken. Once again it’s flavour of the month to diss him. Tuipolotou and Saiili were extremely average ABs.

its incredible mismanagement
-
@mariner4life The ridiculous thing is, if they want to re-sign Folau for the next few years, they may have to pay even more.

How can they justify paying him that much? That's more than 1 million more than his captain! No wonder he's in no hurry to return to League.

Easy - no one else gets the sort of media attention every time they're on Instagram. That's worth a motzah for the ARU!

Laumape has just finished his 3rd season of Super Rugby.

it shows how desperate they are , to us kiwis he is seen as a bit over rated ,
But to them he is their biggest star , someone to pin their hopes on

I think they're also desperate to get League eyeballs. Maybe Leagies will watch games for Folau like we used to watch league games just for Inga (well me anyway)? They've also got no other marketable players. James O'Connor had enormous potential but we know how that went... That kid must have lost millions.
But that salary is obscene. I can't see how they could possibly get a ROI from that.

He was absolutely superb in his 2nd season, I was really hoping he'd build on that form and develop other parts of his game further, but it just hasn't happened. Has bucket-loads of potential though.

Historically Aussie rugby players have always been paid more than ABs. I remember seeing a list back in the day that had Gregans wage and it was eye watering. Then there was the Medicare Matt, Lote and Hello deals.
