@mariner4life yeah boi! hit that alley-oop and dunked it son!

@mariner4life bullshit. Getting hit on the thighs is exactly what he's worried about and is exactly why kids (and adults) jump away from the ball.
All the cricket brands make guards for kids so use them, they're also well designed these days. Also his heroes on tv wear them so that's a telling point of comparison.
Never too young to understand and have the right equipment for building confidence

you're bullshit...
Realising it doesn't hurt that much will probably help him out. How many here started hard ball cricket wearing no back pad? let alone an inner thigh guard. You going to stick him in a chest guard as well?
-
@mariner4life good one grandad. You actually haven't spent much time with kid cricketers these days huh?
What about helmets in modern youth cricket? -

Injury rates in junior players are low, but increase with age and level of play. Use of protective headgear, particularly by batters, leads to a significant reduction in injuries.

'cause all you hard bastards got shouted down by single mum's 😀. Philip Joel Hughes might have a bit to do with it too

I could easily get behind it for kids in their mid-teens, some of them are getting rapid. But younger? come on.
Yes, it's very "back in my day" but i only ever wore a lid at prem club level. Never at high school, and never at any other senior grade. And i could barely hold a bat.
-
@mariner4life yeah, fully understand, that's why we were lucky to have grown up before everything was bad.
Stanhope sums it up best yet again: -

@nzzp if he is that old then all of this advice is waaaay over the top. Inner thigh guard? learning to sway past bouncers? jesus.
I think it's safe to assume @JK wants to live vicariously through his son as a pro cricketer, so IMO it's never to early to start training him up for the serious stuff.

Why is Scott getting the hate?
He ran out @antipodean, who I believe is a lawyer who supports the tahs.
I’m loving Scott.
