I suppose the Colombian keeper needs a bodyguard now.
Not joking sadly.

England thru.
Know sod all bout the game or the players, but, bearing in mind the history of England and penalties, winning that penalty shoot-out could be a very significant moment in this England team's World Cup.
-
England didn't look the better side, but they looked the more professional to me. As the game closed they still kept their shape.
Even the penalty "missed" was quite a good shot. Five decent penalties by England is a new experience for me.
Top two inches. It's a cliche, but often true.
-
@billy-tell I think the guy who hit the woodwork is the one who will get the blame. One truly excellent save by both keepers canceled, so it was the miss that counted.
-
Well done the penalty takers.
England played their 'Get Out Of Jail' card.
Can count themselves lucky Colombia only wanted to play for 35 mins.
Unbelievable to think this very average team could get to the final.
Sweden, Russia and Croatia are all very beatable

England back 3 are very solid. Their defensive structure is very good. But up front they are lacking class.
There was a glimpse in that ET of what they can do pushing forward through the middle but they don’t have the flank players that create. But they aren’t easy to score against so will always be in with a chance.
-
I actually thought England played well and controlled the game until they scored the goal and then got a bit of "what do we do now"
That was terrifying that shootout and I was very pessimistic.
Watched with a Venezuelan that was wearing an England shirt. When we got that final penalty he threw the worst double handed high five and palmed me straight in the nose and a finger in the eye. He didn't even know he had done it he was so ecstatic
-
Given the history against them, I think it was the right strategy to have your best go first and second.
That final shot didn’t have that much power and the Colombian keeper got a hand to it, but destiny was on their side

can see the strategy of having big boys (Kane/Falcao) take 1st pen, get off to a good start etc, but still, theyre the captains shouldnt they be taking 4th or 5th pens when its squeaky bum time, rather than biff some poor young git like Dier or Rashford in there at crunch time to clang it and face a potential lifetime of ignominy?
What an escape. I propose this penalty shootout line-up if England find themselves in the same predicament again
-
In all seriousness, England have a great opportunity to make it at least to the SF, if not the final. They will have a decent chance against Sweden and Croatia, rather than face France or Brazil on the other side. They have lot of work to do though
-
As a football match that was awful - hardly a chance created and both teams complaining to the ref like teenagers. England controlled the game but never really looked like scoring - Colombia without their best player struggled to create a thing until they switched to route 1.
Can England make the final? Yes but Sweden must be eyeing it up as well and that quarter-final looks like being another awful game - hope I'm wrong. Both sides are strong in the air so it could resemble a lower league game with plenty of long ball.
England look good when they are buzzing around doing everything fast but the skills of players such as Sterling aren't really up to it and once their zip went in the 2nd half, they didn't seem to have any other plan - except for players to fall over to try to win free kicks and penalties. (Colombia looked like they were playing for penalties from the start).
The 2 halves of this draw definitely look like the penthouse and the outhouse with the quality of the games so far.

Awful game. Columbia gave me the shits and i wanted them out. Their behaviour was deplorable, and they should have seen another couple of cards early on. Then England bought in to it, and the last 20 mins was guys on the floor. It was everything i hate in soccer.
Trying to hold on to 1-0, and sitting deeper and deeper, is always dangerous, and boom. Extra time. Barely deserved given the way Columbia sat for most of the game.
England look structured, and have obviously bought in to the game plan, but lack that real creative player to turn all those passes in to attach. Add in Sterling and Lingard having numerous poor touches that turned the ball over, and all England's shape and control barely resulted in a chance. They need to find another way to get guys running in to space.
But to win on penalties is such a massive mental moment for them, who knows what they will come out with in the Quarter. A game that is very winnable.
And fuck off Columbia.

Most of the South American teams are negative cynical and boorish. I expect similar stuff from Uruguay as well

Really stoked they got through, I was certain they were done when the Colombia keeper made that save. Penalty shoot-outs really are a lottery, but the English can be happy they all kept their nerve and put their shots on target.
Agree with comments about the game, it was mostly pretty dire stuff. England look well coached, but they do lack - dare I say it - X factor. Think Kane needs to try and inject himself into the game more as he was drawing fouls when he had the ball near their goal.
Colombia seemed to have a similar plan to Panama - get in the English faces with niggle etc. Right at the end, and for the first half of ET they actually played some football and looked good. England to their credit put in a big effort in the second half of ET and created a couple of chances.
And I really don't see why they allow the players to run up spaz out at the ref about every decision. It's fucking nonsense and just wastes so much time - I really feel for the refs having to put up with that shit. Seeing a ref having to argue with a player about a decision is ridiculous - just make it captain only and card any other whiny little bitch that mouths off (see Aaron Smith v France for an example of how to deal with whiny little bitches).
