@mn5 probably a good time to mention Eastbourne still hold a national title for lawn bowls...3 years running.
I've still got fond memories of a night at the clubrooms and nailing a few Panhead APAs. The Bourne was going off that night!!

Gee Fiji were utter shit. Good for us for them to bring that in the gold medal game.
Not a big fan of 7s, particularly without the top players, but I enjoyed that.
What top players were missing?
You're kidding right?
What? I can't think of the top players missing, that's not far off our strongest squad.
Ahem. How about the Super roster? The major European club comps. That's what I meant by top players. I totally recognise they are different games that require different skill sets, but unfortunately the best rugby players on the planet are not there.
There's a super roster of Sevens players? Major European club comp for Sevens? Gee I had no idea they were hogging all those players. That's a shame for the commonwealth games.
You know what I'm talking about. Don't be an idiot.
Oh so you're talking about good XVs players when discussing Sevens players. Makes perfect sense. Yes must be me being an idiot huh...
Cmon Bones, don't be a tool. I was merely saying that it's unfortunate that the best rugby players on the planet aren't there. I acknowledge this isn't possible these days and that the games are very different. You think all the same players would be there if the 15s players had the same training and build up?
How about you quit with the usual name calling just because you can't understand something simple? Seems to be a very common occurrence.
The best Sevens players ARE there. Tell me the better Sevens players that are missing.
When did I say the best available Sevens players aren't there? I didn't and you know it. I've been quite clear about what I've meant but you've insisted on completely avoiding that. Seems a very common occurrence...
You said the best rugby players aren't there. They are.
?
No they're not. Are you saying these guys are better rugby players than all their 15s counterparts now?
Definitely. Their 15s counterparts aren't even playing Sevens. Is it a shame for you when you watch the 100m final and the best runners are missing because they don't run the 100m?
Or the guys who win the US softball champs, because the best guys are playing baseball.
I was just wondering how much better table tennis would be if it had Rafa et al. They're the real tennis players! 😊
Yes, you often see that crossover. With shot putting and javelin too.
I mean in rugby you only have the Ioane bros, Messam, Savea, BFA etc etc. It's a great comparison.
Thanks.
No problem. It really was a brilliant analogy and totally logical. I mean an even better one would be pole vault and high jump.
That sounds about as stupid as saying better players than the ones playing are missing from a final of a game they don't even play.
No it doesn't. We are talking about the game of rugby right?
Hey maybe the longjump and ski-jump can cross over. That would be another really valid comparison.
Are long jump and ski jump both athletics events? Not only that, are they both field events in athletics? No.
Just applying your logic. Another good one is biathalon and decathlon.
Hang on. Athletes from one don't compete and dominate in the other?
Just applying your logic. How about bowls and ten pin bowling?
Not my logic. But quite funny to see you arguing against yourself now...
Don't blame me. You're the one who compared rugby 7s and 15s with shot put and javelin.
-
@rancid-schnitzel Who's blaming who for what? And what exactly are you arguing now?
-
@taniwharugby yeah but....Eastbourne.
-
@taniwharugby not too far, might take you a while in that tractor though, once you get out of the slammer.

No complete footage of the women's final online? Would love to watch that, can only find scraps (mostly the winning try)
I couldn't find any of the men's either. Disgraceful, why don't TVNZ make it available instead of screening their regular shit

Found these on Daily Motion
Mens

https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x6hub3dIt's the TVNZ feed with a fair few ads stuffed in - watched the Womens final in full as I missed it on Sunday, great game - NZ really should have closed it out in regular time except for a couple of errors. Niall Williams an absolutely superb chase, tackle and steal before Brazier's epic run.
-
@kiwipie Only just noticed the ridiculous comment before kick-off that both teams "are pretty much injury free for their frontline players". "Both at full strength for their gold medal match".
Clearly have no clue. The BF7s played the whole tournament without first choice players Ruby Tui (pulled very late due to mumps) and Kat Whata Simpkins, and for the final they had to bring in a 17-year old (Risi Pouri-Lane) because Tyla Nathan-Wong suffered a neck injury in the semis.

Thanks a lot, what a game!
A sidenote, the referee was ten times better than Rasta Rasivhenge, very few mistakes and very good communication.
