Lion
Bloody hell, outrageously emotional movie. The better half basically spent the whole two hours in tears. Pretty amazing story very well told, hard to fault it. India is a fucked up place, huge disparity between rich and poor and 80 odd thousand kids go missing every year which is absolutely nuts.
Would recommend.
4.5 long train rides out of 5 lost children.

Get Out - Black American guy meets the White girlfriends parents for the first time. They're a bit odd and awkward... even the black homoe hellp / folk that keep company with them are a bit off. A funny thriller / horror, it reminded me of a movie from almost 20 years ago which I won't mention for fear of spoiling the plot.
3.5 TSA Agents out 5.
Loved it.
The Invitation too, for a similar vibe. -
@MiketheSnow Thanks for the recommendation, checking it out now

Watched "The Wizard of Lies" last night, the Bernie Madoff move starring Robert De Niro and an old looking Michelle Pfeiffer.
Unlike a lot of the big financial movies of the last few years, this one isn't a story of how and why, this is essentially a portrait of what happens to a family when the dominant personality turns out to be the opposite of what everyone thought.
The movie takes the slant that the family knew nothing, and builds its story around that, so i guess how much you will enjoy it will be linked to how much you can believe that scenario.
The majority of the movie takes place in 2008, the year it came down, with the last part up to 2010. There is no how, there is little given to who was affected, and its impact on them. However at no point does it try to portray Madoff as a sympathetic figure.
It's, okay i guess. A bit disjointed.

@mariner4life someone suggested a podcast here recently and I got around to listening to a bit - it was basically the same gist, family didn't know and Madoff didn't seem remorseful about anything, except feeling sorry for himself.

Yeah , it's worth checking out as the only part that affected him was his sons reaction The funniest part was a couple of his clients twigged that he was crooked and ripped him off but there was nothing he could do about it without admitting he was crooked . Man was the whiny little shit pissed off with them . Apart from that he came across as an amoral turd.

xXx, The Return of Xander Cage....what a load of bollocks, but it was good fun, plus Ruby Rose is sexy AF.
3 hot xXx Agents out of 5 impossible scenes

The misso is away for work, so I've seen a few movies this week
Deepwater Horizon: Not too bad. i fucking love a disaster movie, seeing shit get royally fucked is always fun. This one wasn't too bad. Glad they didn't drag it out too long, the length was about right. Only one gratuitous "USA!" shot as well. All the usual boxes ticked, except the evil uncaring dicks in suits are this time evil uncaring dicks in polo shirts and hard hats. Entertaining
3.5 budget overruns out of 5 corporate dicksEverybody Wants Some!! Thought this was billed as the spiritual sequel to Dazed and Confused. Bullshit. This movie completely lacks the heart of D&C, and focuses on the stupider parts of that movie. It's essentially a 2 hour (yea it's surprisingly long) "story" about a college baseball team bonding the weekend before classes start. And then at the end the main dude gets a girlfriend on the first day of uni? Who he hasn't fucked? That's some bullshit right there. Couple of funny moments, but probably best viewed hungover (pretty sure only one set of tits in the whole movie, which, given the "plot" is desperately disappointing)
2.5 bad mustaches out of 5 competitive ladsCars 3. Always the weakest of the Pixar franchises, but i believe the most profitable? Hard to believe it got a third after the terrible 2nd. First thing, Pixar are really fucking good at animation. While the cars are still cartoonish, wait for some of the countryside backgrounds in the middle part of the movie, incredible. Now, this isn't actually a story for kids. Well, no, there might be two stories, but they probably miss the main one. It's a story about getting old, and the hole that can be left by finding out you can't do what you love the most. Guys who no longer play sport? It's aimed at you. Of course the story for the kids is "never give up on your dreams" but that involves focusing on another character. It's not terrible, but it's certainly no Toy Story 3 either.
2.5 shit my legs have got slow out of 5 look at that young quick prick, I'm going to stand on him in a ruck -

Saw Baby Driver last night. Had no idea what to expect, only that the reviews were good and I'm a fan of Edgar Wright.
Was very good indeed, really creative action flick with an awesome soundtrack. Mix of Tarantino, Guardians of the Galaxy, Kingsmen and Drive. Jamie Foxx and John Hamm particularly outstanding. Thoroughly recommend.

Kiera Kightly is a fucking pretty woman.

See, Kunis always came second to Rachel Bilson to me in the midget hot brunette race

Yes, the emotional payoff in "Lion" was huuuuuuge when spoiler happened. I fucking cried like a 6 year old girl with a skinned knee.
I really enjoyed that film.
