@tim definitely wouldn't expect them to get any funding if they do take it overseas, government should take the money theyre offering to host and give to another team, how much was it?
I do get sick of the model where they call our bluff and demand more and more each time with idle threats.

Is there an Ocean Racing thread too? couldnt find one, have been following NZ Ocean Racing, disappointed theyre not racing in the current european event but they seem to be still aiming for the 22/23 Ocean Race

"Emirates Team New Zealand is currently still within the exclusive three-month negotiation period with government and council, so it is premature to comment on commercial negotiations until they have concluded," a spokesman said.
"However, we have only recently received the Government and Council position, which we will now carefully consider over the next two weeks."

more speculation it's heading to the UK
not sure i like this
Wheatley felt Team New Zealand were finding commercial deals tough to make in the current tight financial environment and, mischievously or not, aired speculation that Swiss billionaire Ernesto Bertarelli, the Alinghi boss who famously ripped the champion Kiwi team of 1995 and 2000 apart, could come to their aid. “Cue the benefactor source of last resort – a bored billionaire – and oh how one of Swiss descendancy might well be licking his lips at a turn-key proposal that just needs the rocket fuel of cash, of which he has plenty, to scoop up and turn into commercial and sporting gold,” Wheatley wrote on Rule69blog.

@kiwiwomble so they are getting thier rich mates to fill the gap of the 1/4 of a billion the NZ Govt and Auckland Council contribute?
-
@taniwharugby i don't mind a bored billionaire coming in if it means the taxpayer doesn't foot the bill...but Bertarelli?
It must be hard for lots of reasons finding sponsors at the moment
-
@kiwiwomble yeah thats what I was gettign at, more i hope they dont come calling to the Govt for any funding this time, other than what any NZ sports team might get when competing overseas.
-
@taniwharugby im happy if they dont get anything if they take it overseas, its one thing to get that same kind of money as anyone else when going to compete in someone else's event, but theyre in control and if they choose to go overseas then i think they need to find it themselves
-
That might be better in absolute crap stuff NZ thread.
I just read sailing journo makes shit up to sell an article. He even admits it:
“We’ve been this way before. In the absolute vacuum of real information, conjecture creeps in like an unwelcome leak in a starboard window. But it’s there and collective breaths are being held as the brinksmanship takes things to the wire.
I also agree @Kiwiwomble they shouldn't get cent unless it is held here.

OK, so I might have been talking out of my arse.....
Yes he gave them a loan, to get us there
He was considered a possible investor in the time preceding Coutts and Butterworth leaving, the other reference I could find for it is here
Unfortunately the crucial bit is at the start and is blocked out by NZH. Fanks

Pretty sure that the loan comment came from Butterworth when he sold out too and I wouldn't trust him either.
Complete snake pit.
