Even Murray Mexted could at least be humours when getting stuff wrong - actually i feel for Nisbo its been his job for (i don't know how many) years, he probably enjoy's the environment and is good to get along with. Possibly has quite a high ranking in agmonst his peers and it may be hard for reality to kick in - although sooner or later it will happenMex and Bill McLaren are commentating Gods. Everyone else sucks compared to them.

If Luatua deserved red, then Leitch should have had one, too.
Luatua hit a guy high without the ball, Leitch at least got the ball carrier ....
Which had nothing to do with the card, which was given because of contact to the head with force - with his arm.
Leitch hit the guy in the head with his shoulder, with force. Should have been a red card by the new standard, and if Luatua's ban is the standard 4-6 weeks holiday. Let's see how consistent the Judiciary is.
Yeah right.
You reckon hitting someone without the ball shouldn't play a part in these decisions? That's just bollocks.
If the judiciary give him some weeks off then so be it, but I didn't think Luatua should have got as many of his weeks either.
I never said that, nice strawman. The fact is he got a red card because of the new focus on contact to the head.
The one that was ignored for Leitch.
Wasn't intended to be a strawman - I think the yellow for the high shot is fine in both cases and I think a case can be made that the off the ball of Luatua earns a red (even if that wasn't the ref's thought process). I'm not a fan of the new interpretation.

Nisbo showing some Alzheimer's signs tonight. Getting himself really confused.
Its not just tonight. Nisbo has been mixing up players for a few years.
The Highlanders Blues final flashed up on my YouTube yesterday. Nisbo calling Lomu as Vidiri. Comforting stuff.
Thats funny because I saw that this morning , on the tight five you tube channel

Yeah that's the one! How good was that game, the handling back then was sublime.
On this game - Ardie was a bit shit eh? Canes their own worst enemy, not exactly what I'd call playing to the conditions.
-
Fuck it was wet out there, especially in the 1st half. If I had stayed at home I wouldn't have been able to watch the first 20 mins on TV due to atmospheric conditions. Much better under cover in the stands.
Anyway to the game. Too much niggle from both teams and dumb play by Bird, Fisi’ihoi and Leitch from a Chiefs perspective.
BUT if I was Coles I wouldn't be pointing the finger. I don't know if it was shown on TV but Coles took out BBBR way off the ball in the 1st half, similar to Bird on TJP. It's just that Brodie got up like a real rugby player. For most of the game Coles was channelling his inner Stephen Moore with persistent whinging. Focus your energy on the game!
Before the try to Pulu I thought the Chiefs would have been disappointed with only leading by 4 pts at HT with possession and territory, while the Canes would have been happy to trail by only 4 pts after playing 20 mins with 14 men. In the end that try proved decisive.
The weather certainly dictated tactics with plenty of kicking. Turning the Bus around was an obvious tactic but he coped well for the most part.
In the end a vital 4 pts in a NZ derby so a good nights work in the rain.

I'm surprised the Leitch one wasn't red. Pickerill will probably get quite a few pointers in his report card for this game although he also had the test level experience of hometown as an AR and Glen Newman has a fair bit of experience as well. I think they should have helped him out a little more as he was finding this quite a tough game in intensity.

@Crucial I've got no skin in the game but you seem to be being a bit of an egg, tough start to the day?
Nah, it's a great start when you get a win in the morning.
The fish were biting hard as well.edit: you may well be right though. Probably shouldn't try and watch the cricket then get up early and watch the rugby with ipad on lap. Need my beauty sleep.

Watching replay.
Few things.
How the fark was that late hit by Bird on TJP not a YC?
When JB made that break, wtf did Gibbons not catch the pass? That was bizzare. They score there, they potentially get within 2 with plenty of time left.
Regardless, Chiefs better team and deserved to win.

Michael Leitch cited for tackle on Riccitelli!
Leitch is alleged to have contravened Law 10.4(e), which is dangerous tackling of an opponent, and the citing commissioner deemed the challenge worthy of a red card upon further review.
-
I was surprised he didn't see a red to start with but to equate this 'tackle' with Luatua's is lazy journalism. Yes they both contravened the same law and fall under the same tougher guidelines but they are totally different.
Luatua hit a player without the ball with a swinging arm and made contact with the head. Even taking away the head contact there were factors of being off the ball and dangerous (the swinging arm).
Leitch made a tackle on a ball carrier where he didn't take due care to ensure that there wasn't head contact. He executed a legal act illegally (if that makes sense).
He will cop a ban but I would think that the entry level criteria is different in a number of factors to Luatua's (mid level) and enough to drop it to Low (2 weeks). mitigating factors (record) could even reduce it to one week. -

This rain is ruining the game unfortunately. Its a bit like the fog final its that bad
And I don't mind yellow cards. But how about consistency. Or do they only apply to one side. Dirt by the Chiefs is allowed it seems whereas slipping by Canes players due to the rain isn't
Read this kind of nodding until the last sentence. Then looked who had posted it.
Had an "Aha!" moment.
Winger, you remain awesome.

People still seem to have the crazy idea that a ban is worse than a red card. It seems crazy to me that to receive a ban you have to meet the red card threshold. Giving people a yellow card and a lengthy ban seems to me a more reasonable punishment. I think both Fatialofa and Bird should cop bans but I understand they will not unless those incidents meet the red card threshold.
If Leitch's tackle met the red card threshold and was not punished appropriately then he should have a few weeks tacked on to his sentence. If you get away with foul play during a game, you should be punished more severely. If Luatua gets a red + 4 weeks and Leitch gets a yellow + 1 week when they basically contravened the same standards then that makes no sense. Basically they are saying if you get away with something during the game, you get away with it. You may be punished later but only to the same extent as an incident which was seen during the game.
