@Stargazer He is injured alot so it is not surprising.
As you may have missed, Crotty isn't injured at all. It was just a stupid assumption from the commentators, who seem to have missed the fact that the coaches might want to give ALB a run and that ALB's preferred spot is at 12.
He also doesn't get injured often. He was injured at the beginning of the Super Rugby season because he had a DIY accident at home, so nothing rugby related. During the rest of the season he only missed one game. He had the head knock during the second game v Wales, which ruled him out for the third. Head knocks can happen to anyone; one single head knock that keeps a player out of the match day squad for one game doesn't indicate a weakness. It's clear you're not a fan, but at least get your facts right.
Chill out dude. Obviously misled by the commentators and some times in the back of your mind you get impressions that may be incorrect. It was 430am when I watched the game on replay and was ff at times. It is obvious I am not a big crotty fan but he is not disgracing himself. We all have favorites and in my opinion by world cup time I think we can do better. Hoping to see more of alb, not sure about Moala or fekitoa yet. We have had Nonu and he has set the standard so anyone walking into his position is subject to comparison fair or unfair. I would like to see a more robust 2nd five that will take some of the pressure off Barret. How about Akira Ioane at 2nd five and just reinvent the position.

Agree with sentiments that we need to play England to see how good we are because we are smashing everyone else,
I think you mean England need to play us to if they are actually any good.
We know we are good, we have won the last 2 RWC's, have lost like 3 games during the past 100 years.
What exactly do we have left to prove??
You always have to prove something. OK so let me ask it this way. Who is the next team on the horizon that may test us beyond the rugby championship?
Apparently south Africa with all their players
-
@mariner4life you mean those not picked because of quotas or injury?
-
Ardie and Julian are the first All Blacks brothers to both score in the same game.

I think the quota thing is overdone.
On another forum the question was asked who was picked on race and should not be there and there was only one player identified (reserve hooker Bongi), and even he had been dropped for the game against the AB's. Arguably he wasn't a quota player but a project player they were hoping to get some experience
There really aren't many (if any) players who are disadvantaged due to the quota system.
Does anyone else know of any player in the Boks who is there on race and not on merit?

I assume you mean Reiko Ioane. If you watched last week's game v the Pumas, Crotty ran near perfect lines off Barrett. I can understand the coaches trying to cultivate that. As the coaches have said multiple times, they see Crotty as a Conrad Smith type of player. It's just silly to compare him with Nonu. Anyway, with the TRC more or less in the bag, they will try different players and combos over the next few games, so maybe we get to see some great alternatives.

Do you remember when Dane Coles was absolute rubbish? His play now is bordering on the best hooker ever. Quite a turnaround.

I was at the ground, Crotty almost definately went off injured. Was on the ground for a while being treated not long before leaving the field.

Goddam I love seeing that gloryhunter Habana made to look like a Muppet. Was that 3 walk in tries due to him being out of position?
People giving Fekitoa a hard time maybe aren't noticing how excellent his defence is. Gee he makes some irksome mistakes on attack though.
@broughie Ardie dropped it onto the boot and it almost came off. But hey, what was wrong with the option of a simple pass to the space outside him.....not flashy enough for Ardie?

I'd struggle. But is Mohoje their best option as a flanker?

I enjoyed that game a very very lot!
The broad that sang the Saffa anthem had a lovely voice - good song that one
Coles features so much when we win well
Feki and Crotty are ok. Feki doesn't possess the same class as what we've been spoiled with but by christ you can't fault his physical endeavour and committment. He really puts his body on the line for us. Good on him. Perhaps he'll only be our starting centre for a couple of seasons before the next bright young Bunce, Stanley or Conrad comes about.
Crotty's tackling is not to be underrated. He's no world beater and he's not out of his depth either. He's a classic "safe pair of hands" at 12 for the moment
Nonu, Jane and even Coles Aaron Smith are all reminders to be patient with developing AB's and give them time to grow until it's blatantly obvious that there's better options available.
Read's got this team working well so kudos
Nugget was back to his usual and that passing was very crisp
TJP, good lad that's how we knew you could play. Tawera who?
BFA just rocks, Daggs going good and the bus is right on time again
I always remind myself how lucky we are with Sam and Brodie. Looking at some of the dickhead locks around like Eben and that Tassie git in yellow it's refreshing not to have to worry about blooding locks. Romero has done all that's asked of him too
Mouth agape when the forwards threw those long passes to get Sammy Hagrid in in the corner. You see those standing passing drills on James Somerset allblacks.com videos and could be fooled into thinking "that's all a bit basic ain't it?" and then the big lads throw passes that half the international centres out there can't. Pleasant
How quickly did the backs get onto that fast attacking ball off the lineouts? One of those "why didn't teams do that before?" type things.
Fuck off George. No seriously fuck off. You talk into the ref's ear about a possible neck roll (fair enough) but when you see it there is nothing wrong with changing your mind (that would actually be doing your job competently). The high up angle after George pulled rank showed the Bok only went straight backwards, no roll at all
When will any ref do something about taking players out and deliberately holding them past the ruck?
God our scrum has been cool this season - fair dues all involved
So the word is there'll be some resting and rotation on the away legs - choice.
Oh and is it true that we've already wrapped up the trophy?
YES IT IS!!!

Weird call, I know you can't dummy throw but early decoy jumpers I see all the time.
I think (think!) you can jump early but not lift early. They were bound as he jumped.
The above should not be taken as gospel.

Basically you can't jump or lift before the ball leaves the hookers hands. It is the equivalent of 'foot up' in a scrum.
While Gardner was correct and obviously wanted to clean the line out contest up for the game, it would have been better to have a word at the next break and warn them of going to penalties (same with the 'early movement call' on Coles). Owens or Joubert would have done that rather than disrupt the flow of the game which took an age to find any rhythm.
Get the game flowing first and your job as ref becomes easier IMO because players are operating more smoothly and making less errors.
I disagree. It wasn't a technical or marginal breach of the law. The Boks very deliberately lifted their man 2-3 seconds early to prompt the ABs to jump, and then they threw over the top to the unmarked jumper behind. Their actions are exactly what the law is designed to prevent and so they were pinged.
I thought Gardiner was very good.
I have no problem with the intent or technicality of the call, it was perfectly correct. I do feel however that AG is still learning the top end game management skills that make the difference to the game as a 'product'. I really do think a ref like Owens would have noted the infringement and had a word of warning with the Boks. Same with the minor scrum infractions. Players were getting frustrated and the game took forever to get any flow and rhythm to it.
This is nit picking but when Julian scored and the TMO was needed (correctly), AG just wandered slowly over to the AR as if nothing had happened. This kind of thing takes all the sting out of crowd celebrations, turning an exciting moment into a slow examination and anti-climax. He is miked up, he could have got onto things with urgency instead of deadpanning the situation. -

Calls it as he sees it and stays staunch in his convictions. Better to leave him be and get the players and captains to adjust to him, rather than the other way round -

I really disagree with the bolded bit. The incident was material because it did not allow a fair contest for the ball at the lineout. It also appeared to be deliberate. By ignoring it and "managing" it, Gardiner would have simply enabled a piece of illegality which helped one team over the other. Any ref that knowingly ignored an offence that had a material affect on the play that would open themelves up to criticism - be they Nigel Owens or whoever.
"Managing" things like players leaving their feet at breakdowns, hands in rucks, put in to scrums etc has been a pretty big disaster from what I can see.
