Disagree completely. I am not a Star Trek fan, but I saw that trailer before Watchmen and went sheeeeeit, I have to see that film. Fans at the early sneak previews are saying it is the equal-or-better than Wrath of Khan, which for Trekkies is very high praise indeed.
I've never been interested in Star Trek but I can't wait to see this movie. It looks great. It has been getting good write ups to.
The trailer just looked like a standard action adventure film to me - not Star Trekky, I was hoping for it to be more Star Trekky, it came across like a teen film to me.
I'm hoping it will be good though. -

Always loved how The Who's "Who Sell-Out" stylized itself on the pirate radio theme, too.
Does have the Who song.... I Can See For Miles.
Makes sense, that's the single from that album.. -

Maybe that's why I liked the look of it. <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Just saw Wolverine and really enjoyed it. Some good action and it was under 2 hours long. Am hoping they make a Gambit movie. xzxdrinks -

I struggle to see how it could be more Star Trekky with Kirk, Bones and Spock, the red alert siren, the old uniforms (miniskirts!), the old ship designs, and going back to the sex, action and humour of the the original series instead of the boring tech explanations of the later tv spin offs. -
Watched The Wrestler last night and would give it a 9/10. Mickey Rourke does an incredible job playing an aging down-on-his luck pro wrestler. You just feel every ache and pain the guy suffers throughout the movie - a shame he didn't get the oscar for this. The movie has a very gritty feel to it and it gave me a new appreciation for what pro wrestlers put their bodies through. Oh, and Marisa Tomei gets her jugs out xzxgood

Edit: Just saw Red Terror's earlier review of this flick, and I concur -
Watched Mongol, 7/10, good flick. Are they going to bring us a sequel?
Apparently first in a trilogy.

"XMen Origins: Wolverine" - leave your brain at the door, good fun actioner not batting above it's grade. Ties in well with the "X-Men" movies except for Sabretooth who was more retarded in the earlier movies. Please note never read the comics.

"Journey to the Center of the Earth" - good wholesome fun for the family, rocks along okay. -
Picked up Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story for 5 bucks ex rental, that is a seriously funny movie. 10/10
Much too hit-and-miss to recommend so highly. It can't seem to decide whether it's supposed to play the satire straight or elevate the camp and have the tongue planted in cheek, which hurts the parody. I give it 6/10.

But having said that, the Tim Meadows' "Get out of here Dewey" clip is probably the funniest sequence about marijuana ever released by a major movie studio...
22 reviews so far at Rotten Tomatoes and 100%.

Variety is the industry bible, and they reckon the film re-invents Star Trek for a whole new generation:
Blasting onto the screen at warp speed and remaining there for two hours, the new and improved “Star Trek†will transport fans to sci-fi nirvana. Faithful enough to the spirit and key particulars of Gene Roddenberry’s original conception to keep its torchbearers happy but, more crucially, exciting on its own terms in a way that makes familiarity with the franchise irrelevant, J.J. Abrams’ smart and breathless space adventure feels like a summer blockbuster that just couldn’t stay in the box another month. Paramount won’t need any economic stimulus package with all the money it’ll rake in with this one globally, and a follow-up won’t arrive soon enough. ...
Karl Urban is also receiving universal praise for his comic turn as Bones.

Looking forward to it! -
Long weekend at home, got some movies out i had been wanting to see for a while, and was entirely underwhelmed.

Body of Lies: Ridley Scott, big Russ, and Leo DiCaprio spy flick. Looked the goods, and just plain wasn't. Not even a decent spy story line, plain action, no great twist. 5/10.
Pineapple Express. Stupid. And i barely laughed, Superbad it is not. Funny fight at the end though. 4/10
RocknRolla: Guy Richie yes, Lock Stock? No. 5/10
Slumdog Millionaire: Despite being dubious at the start, i loved it, great story and well told, definitely a fan. 8/10

Oh, and i have to add my vote to those whothing Dewey Cox sucked. I thought it was going to be piss funny, but when i watched it i reaslied it was just fucking stupid. -

Saw it last night, wouldnt quite give it 9/10, more like high 7.9/10 (woulda been 7.0 without Ms tomei) Enjoyed it, felt they could have done a little more with it, did end rather abruptly.

Rourke was superb, even if he does look like he is full of collagen! -

Started to watch it on the flight back to Oz. (Watched Changeling first) and as a result only got up to the bit were he was sent to hospital after collapsing.
Looked good and I've promised myself I will see the rest.

Saw it on the weekend... Scaryminds summed it up perfectly. I'm an old comic collecting fan who actual owns X-men #94 (first of the new X-Men with Wolverine) and Hulk #181 (first ever appearance of Wolverine) but had stopped before they finally got around to explaining his origin in the Comic world (although Son as kept me up to date and he hated the movie). I enjoyed it but knew it wasn't going to make the grade of exceptional before going so didn't expect much... PS watch all the Credits there are two "Extra bits" as these Marvel movies like to do. (One involving Striker, the other Japan). Also shows how he obtained the leather jacket he has in the x-Men movies, however doesn't explain how he got it back after leaving it on the plane.
I went to see Defiance today. It was the best movie I've seen in a very long time. I can't stand war movies but this wasn't really about the war. I think I fell in love with Daniel Craig and Liev Schreiber.
Then you'll love Wolverine, Liev Schreiber makes a really cool Sabertooth. -
PS... Saw the whole movie with both my sons including the 2 "Extra bits" then walked out to a mass of smoke and a full fledged evacuation with fire fighters appearing and disappearing in the thick smoke and the PA system telling everyone to evacuate.

Out side we were given new free tickets to make up for being made to evacuate before the movie ended... even though it had. Ticket are open to any Hoyt’s anywhere (presumably just Oz) any movie and any season (except special showings.) xzxgood -
Watched Traitor on DVD tonight with Don Cheadle (?)

Cracking movie! Loved it from woe to go.
I saw that a few weeks back, it surprised me how good it was, I was expecting a run of the mill b-grade rubbish movie. I agree with you -

The "one hit wonder" thread reminded me of a documentary just released at Sundance that Rolling Stone mag is calling the years' best rock doc. It's friggin hilarious. These guys would actually play small pubs in my neighbourhood where I would hear from bar staff afterwards that nobody -- that's zero -- people came to watch. Here's the trailer:
