Shit 12 days.
More of the same really although had 4 days up North which was much needed. There was a gym and pool at hotel so probably ended up being even more active.
But have decided to take a bit of action in terms of diet. It's clearly no longer in tune with the volume of training and that has to change. Going to get a body scan and then talk to a dietician.
Yesterday I absolutely hit the wall and started eating everything in sight. I'm obviously not maintaining any more and getting too lean and the body is not happy. Don't want to be that guy who has health problems because of a lifestyle that is too healthy!
Ultimately, I want to continue to exercise this much because I really enjoy it and it's important for me mentally. But that requires fuel and I've really dropped the ball on that one. So best to talk to an expert rather than muddle about myself.

I was always astonished when I read how much Michael Phelps ate but he was ripped to kingdom come. I think its ok to carb pre load provided you burn it off but it’s definitely about getting that balance completely right. It’s niggly when you don’t get that workout in and you can’t justify the big feed !

I'm half way through the 4 hour body diet and he talks about Phelps and his 12,000 calorie days. Says it's basically impossible to burn that so looked into it in greater depth.
It all comes down to thermal conductivity (TC) and the amount of additional energy that Phelps was using by exercising in the water. Because the TC in water is 26x what it is in air, you use 400% of what you would normally use. Basically the water literally sucks the heat/energy out of you.
I think given you swim so much, you might be vastly underestimating the level of calories you need.

Yeah, I think that's the definately the case. It's always been a common factor among swimmers and iron men competitors that they require stupid amounts of food to refuel. Nutrigrain is false advertising. It's only "Iron Man Food" insofar as only Iron Men can eat that sugary crap without becoming a fat arse.
I've been advised to use Dextrose in my protein shakes. Apparently it helps against low blood sugar. It's a common ingredient in certain beer apparently so will be interesting to see if it has an effect.

10km city run on Sunday. Managed 43 minutes, so pretty bloody stoked with that. Was a cool event. Should do more of these. Lucky to make the start though. Guts playing up before the start and it was a miracle I made it through the porter potty line in time. No pleasant but job done.

This week has gone stupid quick!
Had a mini cheat day yesterday which I was a bit ashamed about but think it was the best thing for the body. Had Covid jab on Monday and didn't let up on any exercise which probably wasn't smart but I'm not very smart.
Ginga cnut woke me at 4:30 this morning so I just got up. Good back and tris session at gym then a solid Hitler session:
50m Max
50m moderate
Then 30 seconds each of squats, dips, burpees, pushups and core.Says something about my swimming ability that I find the land exercises the "easy" part.
Good session and made me feel less guilty about the previous day's excesses.

Pretty good week training wise, moreso because for some reason I've hammered it at the gym. Not sure if it was intensity, but damn I've been feeling it the day after. Makes swimming even more important for recovery.
Today I smashed back and triceps at the gym then went straight to Hitler. Felt like asking for an easyish pool session but hardened the fook up and accepted the challenge:
25m Max (few breaths as possible)
then burpees, dips and mountain climbers ×15 each
Another 25m Max
then jump squats, a core exercise I don't know the name of, and push-ups x 15.That was harsh. Managed 6 before I had to leave so was pretty happy with that but am feeling it now. Not sure why the fark I'm doing this but I'm full on addicted now.

Boulder shoulder training this morning. Very nice.
Weekend was a bit of a struggle. Ran 10km and did pool session but was knackered for most of it. Had been a bloody tough week so maybe that was it. Still haven't changed diet too much so that definitely has to be on the to do list.
Was quite funny at lunch. Got together with an old group of friends and family from school. My GF was loudly insisting that I had to order two meals because I needed to get my calories up. There was a great deal of mirth about that. I had a cheeseburger with fries and a schnitzel with fries and hoovered up any uneaten meals.
What was cool was that 2 friends had recently had a good look in the mirror and have lost stacks. It was amazing actually. Trouble is that the couple who set the whole thing up are dangerously overweight and drink like fish. They made noises about doing something about it but nothing new there. My mates used an app to help them lose weight and the female of the large couple said she was definitely downloading it, but that's the easy part. Unfortunately the app doesn't physically stop you from eating or drinking. I try to be as supportive as possible but it's really hard. If my mate doesn't keel over and die today, it will happen tomorrow. He was the best man at my wedding and I'm afraid I'm going to be a pallbearer at his funeral very soon. But in these ridiculous times even mentioning it is taboo. It's crazy.

8 days! Slack. But I suppose more of the same although I fell off the wagon on Thursday and ate like a maniac. When I'm in that zone then it's incredible how much I can put away. I think its because I'm doing even more cardio helping my son with delivering pamphlets. Due to school commitments I had to do most of it myself. So I guess a day with bootcamp, pamphlet route and swimming demands more fuel. Definitely have to get chatting to a dietician rather than talking about it. I'm probably going to try the GC half-marathon (Saturday) and marathon (Sunday) next year so will need some proper advice.
Going to also get one of those body scan things during the holidays. Should be interesting.
-
@rancid-schnitzel yeah I've had one of them done, will get another in the New Year, where I will be c 5kg lower than my last one, so that'll be interesting.

Overdid it on the weekend, both with the training and eating. The heat is becoming so intense that going run, swim then intervals is just silly and probably a bit dangerous.
Just as silly was the eating. 10 wheatbix with protein powder and fruit for breakfast, then 4 rice cakes, 4 schnitzels and noodles, 3 protein bars, a large lamb kebab and large chips, a small tub of ice cream, a pizza, a pack of beef ravioli and 2 quesadillas. I probably could have eaten more but I fell asleep.

@rancid-schnitzel holy shit, thats alot of food!

You get a big appetite when you do 3 hours of exercise in the morning. I'm just effed in the head.

The next morning was a bit....problematic. The cool thing about that level of gluttony is that you get so disgusted with yourself that it takes at least a week before the cravings come back.

Shit almost 2 weeks!
Just had a week on the Gold Coast (actually 5 days because 2 days were spent having to deal with eldest's bullshit). Was fantastic. Didn't have any gym access but heaps of running and swimming. Only glitch was when I had to return to Brisbane due to the aforementioned bullshit. Decided to eat my sorrows away and it wasn't pretty. But I was generally pretty lax for much of the week. Had a few beers etc. My body will now be a temple until Christmas Day. A day on which I shall go absolutely farking ballistic. -

Hope you’ve sorted the boy out, is he too big for a hiding ?

It's one step forward ten back with him. It's a complex combination of trauma, personality and being an arsehole teenager. But a hiding wouldn't go astray. Good luck with that these days though.
