Spin classes
-
Anyone else ever done one of these? Recently did a minor amount of damage to my achilles tendon while running so have been off my feet in the interim. Thought I'd try a spin class and they're brilliant! For those who dont know, theyre basically just a 45-60 minute class done on exercycles with an instructor taking you through a whole series of speeds/resistances. <br />
<br />
The good thing about them is because you control your own resistance (at the guidance of the instructor), they are good for any fitness level, male or female. I always thought they were a bit of a ladies thing but the mix was about 60:40Â females to males and plenty of hot young lasses there to cop a perve of during the quieter parts of the class. <br />
<br />
In terms of heart rate, I had my heart rate monitor on today and during the 50 minute class it averaged out at about 155 (including stretching etc) and during the 'time trial' parts it was up around 185 which is on par with a medium-difficult run. Not a bad work out all round really -
I have never been fitter outside of playing rugby than when I was doing spin classes. I got so addicted to them at one stage that I was doing a 45min spin in the morning and then an 60min spin in the evening 3 times a week.<br />
<br />
Starting it up again on Monday as I have joined a club that does a class at 6 am.<br />
<br />
Good when you are big too as there is little to no impact on joints it done correctly -
Am in a similar situation with my Achilles, and know a few big lads who have done spin - the best aspect of it for rugby players is that its a team environment and they get to prove how tough they are <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=';)' /> No fun when you're getting hammered by the lesbo instructor in the toughness stakes <img src='http://www.daimenhutchison.com/invision/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/laugh.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':lol:' /><br />
<br />
Of course, I was riding the MTB several times a week for up to 30km at night, but that changed once it got stolen. Not having access to a spin class, instead I'm going to try and get a job within riding distance of home and get my exercise that way. Hopefully the new workplace has showers :nta -
Gees mate, these spin classes is absolutely horrifying! I'm a 80kg man and then there were woman of about 100/110kg's.<br />
They shamed me, I couldn't even do the complete cycle. xzxhang1 Will my legs ever forgive me!<br />
<br />
It will sure make you fit, believe you me! -
The Cusaders of 97-2002 used to do often do spin classes in their off-season training. When I lived in ChCh I would often see them in my class . It was fun doing classes with some of them as they really struggled. Broomhall couldn't work the standing sprints with his lanky legs. Jack likewise. Marshall getting PO-ed at the little japanese instructor screaming at him Merts lasting five-minutes and having a spew. Remember a young guy by McGaw cutting it up pretty smoothly and the hookers Sexton and Hammett doing it well too.
