Yeah this "so and so won X number of titles" is a bit weird as an overriding factor.
Surely it's harder to score tries, etc, if your team isn't a title winner?
Hey look the Highlanders have arrived

All their best Super Rugby players that might be in contention (Maka, Meeuws, Wilson, Kronfeld, Stanley, etc) were when I was a Canes supoorter. It's funny watching you fuckers forget I'm just another @Crucial / @Nepia

The Smiths are surely in contention as much as some of these names (the halfback and fullback i mean.... not the right wing Morrissey)

If you want the backline that scored the most tries this is it.
15- Israel Folau (60)
14- Doug Howlett (59)
11 - Caleb Ralph (58)
13 - Stirling Mortlock (56)
12 - Ma'a Nonu (56)
10 - Beauden Barrett (34) ?-not 100% on this.
9 - TJ Perenara (55)I couldn't find the records for forwards but Scott Higginbotham is the only forward on Wiki with 41.
My question to that list would be how many tries are they setting up for others..? in all seriousness would anyone take Caleb Ralph as their first choice winger?

Folau and not Cullen ? Hmmm.
Zinzan Brooke was heads and shoulders above the rest during the nineties. Best Nr.8 IMO.
Carter was the best 10 ever but not in Super Rugby. The most brilliant was Carlos Spencer. He gets my vote with Stephen Larkham bubbling under.Bottom line for me is winning trophies.
Based on that you would select Fourie du Preez or Marshall ahead of Gregan.
I would. Grogan was a brilliant, brilliant Super Rugby player, but at that level Marshall was clearly better than him. At international level, however, George was clearly a better halfback than Marshall (as was FDP for that matter).

any backline that doesnt include Rupeni in it, is wrong haha
Shame we never saw more of him, nor did we probably even see the best of him.

I think we saw the best of him. It was just that his best only appeared in short bursts.
That Blues game against the Brumbies back whenever showcased freakiness.
-
@taniwharugby I know it's not Super rugby but I figured you may remember better - didn't he have an absolute freak game for Northland against Auckland in the NPC - or am I remembering that wrong.
-
@Toddy he did have a couple, played a hand on one of our rare wins over Auckland, but I recall when he played his first game for us, may have been v SOuthland, he 'broke' the Fantasy Rugby system, they had to delay the results for a few days while they fixed things as his numbers were unprecedented.

He was amazing and James Arlidge had one of his best ever games. A crazy high scoring game
-
@Duluth great find!
It was an awesome game to watch. Auckland were generally my second team to support in the NPC, especially as the in-laws absolutely hated them. It was a bizarre watch as this 'new' winger kept tearing them a new one.
Also, it's not often you see a team rewarded for kicking the ball away at the end of the game.
-
@Toddy is a slightly longer clip of that game as the first post in this thread

Olo Brown was a much more impressive THP than Owen Franks IMO.
Olo Brown was the most impressive THP ever.
also, his straight back says 'hi' :D.
I'd vote for Olo for Mayor
Olo takes some beating. Cobus Visagie probably best THP of last 15 years.

Rupeni's got to be top of the "players you wish had more nutritional discipline" list. Occupying second would probably be Tameifuna.

Cobus and Os made a pretty handy front row.

@Canes4life I'm not sure Dan Carter actually warrants selection in an all time Super team. All time ABs, sure - but I'm doubtful about Super.
He only played in two championship winning Crusaders teams - and through the Blackadder era, I think a lot of the Crusaders' All Blacks played within themselves for most of the season and then tried to finish over the top of everyone - playing away from home. A strategy that didn't work.
Dan pretty much admitted as much in his book.
Three: 2005, 2006 & 2008. And it's funny how - because we've won so many - two is refrerred to as "only two". With three championships, only a handful of guys who were in the 1998-2000 and 2002 Crusaders have won more. In saying that though, I wouldn't have him in my XV. This would be:
15 Mils Muliaina
14 Rico Gear
11 Bryan Habana
13 Stirling Mortlock
12 Aaron Mauger
10 Andrew Mehrtens
9 Will Genia
8 Mose Tuiali'i
7 Richie McCaw
6 Reuben Thorne
5 Chris Jack
4 Victor Matfield
3 Greg Sommerville
2 Corey Flynn
1 Wyatt CrockettRes
16 Jeremy Paul
17 Gurthro Steenkamp
18 Owen Franks
19 Sam Whitelock
20 George Smith
21 Fourie du Preez
22 Daniel Carter
23 Ben Smith -
@shark Pretty sure Dan was overseas in France in 2008. Broke his leg, I think. I think Stephen Brett probably had the tiller in 2008.
So in terms of Crusaders' titles:
Mehrts 4
Mo'unga 3
Carter 2
Brett 1I struggle to see that Dan should be ahead of Mehrts in particular at Super level, but probably even Richie.
