@mooshld Doesn't even have to be Tinder-related. I was a bit younger than Grace when I lived overseas. One day I got off the subway to walk home for lunch before afternoon classes and some guy in a suit grabbed me and tried to drag me down an alley. I was wearing jeans and a sweater.
Acting like this shit only happens when women are drunk or underdressed or meeting a stranger in a bar is completely false. There are fuckwits everywhere who think they are entitled to things they aren't. No, I don't blame all men, or all Taiwanese people for the incident. It was one man who got a punch to the head for his efforts.
I wasn't trying to imply this only happens on hookups. Was just trying to highlight how we just take for granted how much easier some things are for most of us posters on this forum.
My wife saw a guy hit on a girl, on her train, last weekend. The girls said she wasn't interested. He spat in her face as he left the train. That just doesn't happen in the other direction.
Sorry, but that's the dumbest statement on the internet today

@raznomore Good grief. What a fucking stupid article. It's not a long list, and they were so desperate to elongate it they stretched back to 1969.
Yes, dumbasses, even safe countries have murders. And I really don't think Australia should be casting stones about tourist murders...

So if responsibility is going to be taken, by all means let Ardern take it. But on behalf of her government, not the entire population. Then do something about it. If this turns out to be drug induced or mental health related, maybe look at providing some support for those areas rather than giving it all to thirsty first year uni students.
This. In doing so it would demonstrate she actually mean what she said - a policy response to a problem she acknowledges exists. It's what you expect of mature governments.
But in the absence, her statements take on the appearance many in this thread are complaining about. All style, no substance.

The place where British back packers never come back from..

@antipodean this: all style, no substance.

@virgil Thailand has a Grace every week!
Often with explicit naked corpse photos on MSM tv and print. Then comes a sham trial and a stitch up of some poor migrant.
The well practiced procedure of Authorities to media is express sincere remorse to the family and reiterate that the police have a job to do and we should let the investigation progress.
End of response.
Tourism never misses a step despite people virtue signalling the house down

This was confirmed on her trip to the UN when she hired an ad agency at taxpayers expense to follow her around taking photos of her Gaylord and Neve in New York.
I’m sure it’s just a coincidence the agency were donors to Labours election campaign.I wonder what job she’s setting herself up for? UN , UNICEF , there’s a few options I guess.

From her campaign to her government, she is the epitomy of style over substance. The most sane person in the government is Winston, and I'm choking back vomit saying that

Now, I am aware of what I said regarding The Apology but today my feeling on the "Grieving NZers" and "Your pain is our shame" is one of, well, embarrassment.
The level of outrage and number of people publicly grieving for an outsider is frankly almost vomit inducing. Not because this poor girl is not worth it. But because our own people are too.The next time a native baby is killed or a native woman is raped I 100% know this public spectacle and vigil will not fucken happen.
And NZ media you need to just stop fucken now with this "shame" & "grieving" bullshit.
-
Cynical question: do these vigils happen if we remove social media? Would so many be attending if they couldn't narcissistically post about it online?
Any of you old buggers remember anything like this happening before? The reaction seems way OTT given we never get vigils for, say, the innocent children that are regularly killed in domestic violence incidents.
(Edited but probably too late for anyone to take this post seriously now)

Nope . I don’t remember there being grief olympics held before social media .

Some parts of the outpouring around Princess Diana's death are the closest I can think of pre-social media.

Good call , that was utterly bizarre.

Missed any previous version so I'll take you seriously, and quote you so others can read your edited post.
Short answer no, I can't remember anything like this in NZ.
I think there is a fair amount of "people in other countries will blame us, and by association me, ME!, beacuse New Zealand, and therefore I must show that I personally am not to blame to ensure that people on the other side of the world don't think badly of ME!".
Much like the Jill Meagher hysteria in Melbourne a few years ago.
